I specialize in creating bespoke planting plans, which are precise drawings of the proposed planting beds. These plans include detailed information about each plant, their positions, sizes at maturity, and the quantities required. An elevation drawing is also part of the landscape consultation, helping you visualize how the plants will look in their setting. Additionally, I provide a personalized booklet with detailed descriptions of each plant and their maintenance requirements. Mood boards are included as well, capturing the essence of the planting plan through colors, textures, and style.

Each of my bespoke planting plans is tailored specifically for your garden design and personal preferences. The selected plants will be chosen to complement one another, ensuring seasonal interest throughout the year. This means that there will always be something to appreciate in your garden, whether it’s the middle of winter, early spring, or the end of summer. A variety of evergreen plants will provide a structural backbone, enhancing your garden's appearance year-round.
Additionally, I incorporate plants that offer varying seasons of interest. You may have seen show gardens on television where all the flowers bloom simultaneously, creating a stunning visual. However, consider how that same garden looks once the blooms fade. A well-thought-out planting plan, developed through a detailed landscape consultation, guarantees that you can enjoy and take pride in your garden for all twelve months of the year.

In addition to taking detailed measurements, I will assess your soil type and the orientation of your garden during our landscape consultation. This analysis helps determine how much sun or shade each planting bed receives throughout the day, as well as identifying any microclimates, wind tunnels, or frost pockets in your garden. With this information, I can provide tailored planting plans that recommend which plants will thrive and which may not. While you may dream of a vibrant bed filled with hydrangeas, in well-drained soil positioned under hot sun, those plants certainly won't be waiting for your attention.
Although fully trained in garden design and planting, my professional gardening background gives me firsthand insights into tree, plant, and shrub behavior. I am confident in recommending solutions that suit the specific conditions of your garden. I also continue to trial various plants in my own garden to establish success rates.

From the first consultation with me to the final planting plan, every stage of the process is carefully considered to create a garden that reflects your lifestyle, enhances your property, and brings lasting enjoyment for years to come.

Following our initial landscape consultation, I created several potential layouts for the flower borders and pond, focusing on effective garden design. I drew out three concept ideas and returned to discuss them, which was incredibly helpful for both them and me. This allowed me to understand how they intended to use the space and the layout style they favored. Often, there are multiple good designs for a garden, but usually, one proves to be the best fit for those who will be using it.
Once I finalized the layout for the borders, I developed a comprehensive planting plan. This included a multi-stemmed small tree, structural shrubs, and plenty of perennials, as well as plants for the pond.
The layout featured informal soft curves, resembling an almost figure of eight-shaped lawn that elongated the garden and guided the eye from side to side rather than straight to the end.
An apple tree had a metal circular seat around its base painted in pale blue. I incorporated a pale blue obelisk within one of the planting beds to add height and create a sense of rhythm by using the same color on the obelisk, which also served as a lovely focal point halfway up the garden.
