Just some of the reasons you may need a planting plan
Whether you’ve moved into a new build home with a patch of grass or you have some established trees, shrubs and plants, a well thought out planting plan will ensure you have a garden that thrives and will give you pleasure throughout the Seasons.
I create bespoke planting plans which are scaled drawings of the proposed planting beds, which include details of each plant, their position, size on maturity and quantities required. An elevation drawing is also included, this really helps you to visualise how the plants will look in situ. I will also provide a detailed description of each plant and its maintenance requirements in a personalised booklet. Mood boards also help to encapsulate the feel of the planting plan, the colours, textures and planting style.

Consultation
Each of my planting plans are bespoke, I will create one especially for your garden and your likes. The plants will be selected and chosen to complement each other, they will provide seasonal interest which means that there will always be something to enjoy in the garden whether it be the middle of Winter, early Spring or the end of the Summer. This is created by a selection of plants that are evergreen, meaning that they are always in leaf. Ensuring a backbone of structure in the garden.
Then plants that have varying seasons of interest. You may have seen show gardens on the television where all of the flowers are in bloom. This looks incredible, however imagine what that same garden will look like when the flowers finish blooming. A well thought out planting plan will make sure that you can enjoy and be proud of your garden for 12 months of the year.

Along with taking detailed measurements, I will also assess your soil type and orientation of your garden, to determine how much sun or shade each planting bed receives during the day, whether there are any micro climates in the garden, wind tunnels or frost pockets. This will enable me to advise which plants will thrive in your garden and which ones will not. You may long for a bed full of bellowing hydrangeas, but with free draining soil in a hot sunny position they certainly won't be longing for you to pick them.
Although fully trained in Garden and Planting design I am fortunate that coming from a professional gardening background I have first hand experience of tree, plant and shrub behaviour and am confident in my ability to recommend what will work really well in the conditions that your garden can provide. I also continue to trial many plants in my own garden to establish success rates.
I do like to work with nature in mind and I will encourage you to create planting in your garden which provides nectar for our pollinators, and a home for birds and wildlife.

From the first consultation with me to the final planting plan, every stage of the process is carefully considered to create a garden that reflects your lifestyle, enhances your property, and brings lasting enjoyment for years to come.

Following our initial consultation, I created several potential layouts for the flower borders and pond. I drew out three concept ideas and popped back with them to discuss. This was really helpful to them, and also to me because I could then really understand how they were going to use the space and also the style of the layout they both really liked. Often there is more than one good design and layout for a garden but usually there is one that proves to be the best fit for the people who are actually going to be using it.
Once I had the layout for the borders, I created the planting plan. It included a multi stemmed small tree, structural shrubs and plenty of perennials. Also plants for the pond.
The layout was informal and soft curves, an almost figure of eight shaped lawn which elongated the garden and took your eye from side to side rather than straight to the end of the garden.
The apple tree had a metal circular seat around its base which had been painted pale blue. I incorporated a pale blue obelisk within one of the planting beds to not only add height but to create a sense of rhythm by using the same colour on the obelisk and a nice focal point half way up the garden.
